Farm Assistant – Semester Break, Winter Support

Elya Holdings, part of Fortuna Group, is seeking a capable and experienced farm assistant to support our team over the winter period. This is a fixed-term opportunity based 22km from Te Anau in Fiordland, Southland.
Dates:
From Monday 30 June to at least 10 July
Potential extension through to 17 July for the right applicant
Elya is a specialist support block operating in a unique and variable Fiordland climate, with light free-draining soils, annual rainfall of 900–1,000mm, and conditions that can range from dry summers through to winter snowfall. The block runs 2,000 MA dairy cows and up to 1,500 dairy heifers, supported by strong infrastructure including quality subdivision, cattle handling facilities, and well-developed farming systems.
About the role:
You will support day-to-day wintering operations across a large-scale support block, working closely with the team to ensure smooth stock management and feeding operations. There will be a period of sole charge, so confidence, experience, and good decision-making are essential.
What we’re looking for:
Experience with wintering systems and break feeding
Confident tractor and machinery operation
Strong stock sense and practical problem-solving ability
Ability to work independently during sole charge period
Reliable, calm, and proactive approach to farm work
